Celebrate Bihu With Kids
Assam’s national festival, Bihu, is celebrated with great enthusiasm and excitement across the entire state. In Assam, Bihu signifies the three separate periods of the agricultural calendar.
Celebrated in April, the Rongali Bihu also called Bohag Bihu is the first Bihu. The second Bihu is held in October under the name Kati Bihu or Kongali Bihu, and the third and final Bihu is celebrated in January under the name Magh Bihu.
We all desire to teach our children about our culture and customs by including them in festivals. If you are not sure how to involve your kids in celebrating Bihu so that they can enjoy and learn more, I am sharing a few activities to celebrate Bihu with kids.

This may be a fun craft for children, especially girls. Gather blossoms from orchids and use them to make Gajra. They can then use it to style their hair after that.
4. Involve In Cooking
Every Festival in India is incomplete without the traditional and yummy feast. Assamese homes are cooking a range of pithas during Bihu, such as til pitha, narikol pitha, and ghila pitha. A sweet snack called til pitha is created with jaggery, rice flour, and sesame seeds. It is frequently prepared during Bihu and is regarded as fortunate. Involve your kids while making these dishes.
5. Bihu Dance
The largest “Bihu” dance performance was set on April 14, 2023, and it became a Guinness World Record. Quick steps and rapid hand movements mark the dancing technique. Now is the ideal moment to introduce your child to the Bihu dance, an important part of Assamese culture and an indigenous folk dance from the Indian state of Assam. It is also tied to the Bihu festival.
6. Organize Fashion Show
Another great way to introduce the Assamese culture to your kids is by organizing a fashion show. Assam portrays its beauty not only in its serenity and lush green forests but also in how people dress traditionally. Along with your neighbors ask kids to get ready with traditional clothes like Dhoti, Chadar, and Gamocha and flaunt their style in fashion shows.
7. Make Bihu Celebration Cards
Make a greeting card for your loved ones to show them how much you care and love them on this special day of the year. Collect the accessories a few days prior and Let your child create beautiful cards.
I hope you will enjoy all these activities with your kids and kids will learn about the significance of the Bihu festival.
